So.. Yesterday we had a club sale. I left 9 plants behind, and brought two projects home. I'll be busy for a bit..
- No good nebary
- Poor branching
- Not so great trunk
So why I bought it?
- It was cheaper than dirt
- I do not own an ulmus because I can never find a matur specimen
- It is a variagated specimen, which adds a bit of specialty to it
Any siggestions on the way forward?

I was thinking some kind of broom style. after a god time of it growing, the branch structure may be good for it. just my view. but i think after you let it grow, maybe take a couple of cuttings, because, if i am looking at it correctly, the leaves are amazingly small.
but anyway, brilliant start and good luck

I always take cuttings. You never know what you might need them for, say, swapping?
But the leaves are not smaller then normal. THe trunk on the other hand..
Cleaned up the moss, repotted, removed 2 roots and thinned out the canopy

It's a good job. I can definitely see a flow in the branches developing. The nebari still looks swolen though, but it looks less swolen.

Hi L B ! I wouldn't be overly concerned with base as it grows it'll meld into itself, just try to promote some lateral surface roots along the way sometime. With the 2 highest branches leading out of the cut, I would try to pick one as the main leader and wire it up some more particularly wher it leaves the Trunk. It doesn't have any Flow up into the top of the Tree at present. Those 2 branches are catching my eye at the same time! good work mate , I love the new foliage on Elms. Talk soon ..Craig
p.s,,, The rest i'm sure you'll figure out as you go, it looks good.
