Yup... not a good bonsai but the general consensus is that it is nice to start with if you are interested in the hobby.
You know what you bought, and why you bought it, so that's fine.
Why is this not a good bonsai... one of the reasons is that it has no character. The tree is shaped, not according to the potential of the tree and the artists ideas, but following a fixed pattern. Therefore there are so many of them that look exactly the same, like this one:

Not bad, I've seen (and bought!) much worse than that. Keep it alive & thriving and enjoy it - anything you do, ie pruning, wiring, repotting gives valuable hands on experience for which there is no substitute. Chinese Elm are easy to propagate from cuttings and even unwanted branches, there are 7 or 8 in my greenhouse right now. I've also air-layered the top section of my CE mallsai which I kept for about 10 years before deciding to try something better with it, the layer was potted up last summer, the remainder is largely buried in the garden to establish roots at the base of the remaining lower branch to effectively grow another tree. No pics yet, I'll dig it up in a few months and show the results

Let it acclimatise for a few months and get new growth before you think about wiring - there is always a huge temptation to be 'doing something' with any new tree, it's best to do nowt and learn the most important 名媛直播 skill - Patience!
