All these "experts" point all the things wrong or right about little trees, but they rarely show a picture, of what their tiny seed turned out to be, or the stump they brought home from the mountain, even the "great buy" from the nursery.
Please, what do they look like after a few years? Yes, there's a bunch of pics of blue ribbon trees that people bring home, but can any one show us their favorite malsai, they transformed into a work of art.

Experts? You?ll see most of us don?t think of ourselves as experts. We are merely enthusiasts and lovers of the true art of bonsai. And of course a picture is rarely depicted, we tend to know when a tree is really worthy of being praised. Also, we have had our fair share of disappointments with "Mallsai". I?m for sure an example of it, but as we might get it wrong the first time, that necessarily means that we won?t make the same mistake twice or thrice, and that is why almost no "Mallsai" are bought again and therefore no pictures taken. I do have one example, however and I?ve actually posted here a couple of times, and that will be mi Ficus Ginseng. Oh, and don?t get me wrong, even if I really like it; I know almost for sure that the amount of money, work and effort it might take me to turn it, perhaps, into a true bonsai won?t compensate me enough to convince me of buying another "Mallsai". And that is why you almost don?t see any "Mallsai" coming from us

However, you write about:
"what their tiny seed turned out to be, or the stump they brought home from the mountain, even the "great buy" from the nursery"
But ask for photos of:
"their favorite malsai" ?
You know these are two entirely different things, right ?

And as i come to a philosophical thought here: what makes anyone an expert at bonsai? As bonsi is an art i find it a complex subject. I definitely know i am not an expert, i am still a beginner whether i be an expert or not in the future, i will still do it because to me its the fun and creativity that makes bonsai amazing for me.
I have a starter tree that was mallsai and i am going to start to style it next year as i have been held back by 6 months thinking it was bonsai

what is an expert? I have been growing plants for 55 years and I am not an expert, in bonsai 15 years and definitly not an expert. I just have more experience than some. Unfortunately we all start in the same way, by buying what is called bonsai just because they are in a bonsai container. Even worse they are described as indoor.
I am and will always be learnind, and anyone who says that they have no more to learn knows nothing.
My trees are mostly in progress and not for flashing about so I will not be putting any pictures here.
Geoff.

We all? I guess there are exceptions to that rule.

I think it's not a matter of being clever, but:
Then we discover bonsai.
I think that's the point; it's HOW we discover bonsai.
The first time I saw one, it was in a shop at the Flowermarket in Amsterdam. It was a real tree - but a miniature version.
I found it amazing and very impressive. And no, I wasn't more clever than others. Apart from 名媛直播, I'm fascinated by carnivorous plants. At that same market, I did buy a 'grow your own carnivorous plant' kit... yep, I can be as gullible as the next guy.
I have owned a mall-sai. It was a relational gift, packed in a cardboard gift box. The soil was the type that becomes hydrophobic after letting it dry out. The tree didn't live long...
It was many years later that I started to try and grow bonsai myself. I planted seeds, bought nursery stock and went to a workshop - while I did not have a garden, just a small balcony. Not many of my 'creations' have survived that period.
I'll try and make pictures of the ones that did.

Really? How has it been for you? I mean, you have some specimens alive? And if so, even if I know we don?t like to post photos of our plants, would you please post some images of these carnivorous plants? That will be awesome...
Oh, and a couple of more things... How do you feed them? A carnivorous plant would need fertilizing too? Where would you find or buy them?
