Hello, am very new to the game and wanting to start growing some bonsai from seed(i know this will take years) are there any species that are easier to grow? or will grow quicker? I already have a few Zelkova Serrata, their a year old now, many thanks for any help, lee

Besides the comment that no bonsai will be mature untill at least 15 years of growing from a seed stage, I would say japanese black pines can be grown into convincing specimens relatively quickly, if you are i nthe right region. And that last bit would dictate which species are easiest. Take local / regional species, and you normally have the best results.

Starting with some older material is the more logical route for most though.

thanks, i will try and get hold of some black pine seeds, i really wish i could buy small starter trees but i live in the falkland islands and you cant get them,theres very few trees here anyway! i think im the only person in the country who is interested in bonsai!!
so seed is the only way to go for me.ill be 44 when there ready!!
