no, sorry, i cannot explain myself properly, what i mean is that if you line the tree down when creating raft style, without bending, the main trunk will bend underneath the soil and take up more room from the pot, as it shall bend downwards like those skateboard ramps in those parks. if you do bend it to make it straight, first, then there will be no dip underneath the soil, so it takes up less space, so a few benefits are in place, you can fit it well in a shallow, long pot, in which in my and many other peoples opinions, it looks better in, and that it takes longer, if not chosen the shallow pot benefit, then it will take longer for it to get pot-bound.

thank you auk for being helpful. i do not know if i have though.

Why would the main trunk need to be underneath the soil?

take up more room from the pot

Why do you think that? The soil does not have to be lower than the top of the pot. You could form small hills, under the bends, that are higher than the pot - if that's what you like.

if you do bend it to make it straight, first, then there will be no dip underneath the soil

Again, why would (the whole trunk) have to dip underneath the soil ?
A raft-style is a representation of a tree that fell over, but has survived. Initially it survived by the remaining roots that were still in the ground, eventually it started forming roots under the trunk, where it touches the soil. It does not HAVE to have roots under every part of the trunk. It may have been a straight tree, but bent trees can fall over too. Personally, I like the bent ones with parts of the trunk above the soil.

so a few benefits are in place, you can fit it well in a shallow, long pot, in which in my and many other peoples opinions, it looks better in, and that it takes longer, if not chosen the shallow pot benefit, then it will take longer for it to get pot-bound.

The trunk will have no roots yet, so the benefits are limited. A bent tree can fit in a shallow pot too. Does a straight one look better? That is your opinion.

oh, ok, as my many school friends say in slang, safe auk! that is one of the many things i love about this hobby, you learn new things, every time. i never knew the trunk could be allowed to be above the soil surface. i should as you said, reassure my advice.

sorry about the cofufle, and wasting your time (your last post must have taken long).
