you are correct cleaner penjing is the chinese version of bonsai. it actually predates bonsai in japan and has been practiced for 2000 years. it is the art of creating trees in a landscape unlike the traditional japanese stlye which is all about the tree and pot with no other decor (sometimes moss)

The bricks were made by cutting up roofing tiles..
