I finally hunted down a suitable tree of heaven specimen! I found it growing in the lawn before I mowed. Although Ailanthis altissima is not used as a bonsai normally I decided to attempt to train it.
I attempted a root over rock formation. Tradionally this would take months. However, this sapling had a "huge" long taproot. So I got a rock with a concave edge and nestled it over the rock. I left it several weeks and was amazed to find that the roots were spreading over the rock with no training.
About 2 days ago I went moss hunting and got some nice pads at a nearby park. I carefully pack the moss around the tree and had some extra to put near my Thyme bonsai.
Enjoy the pictures and dont hesitate to share your opinion.
