Is there a special way to root train? Why is it done? and does the pot have to be so small it is squeezing the roots?

There are different techniques. It is done to get a nice nebari. No, the roots do not need to be squezed, quite the oposite really. Squesed roots will not look good in the long run.

Someone was doing it on the Facebook adenium site and I told him he needs a bigger pot and his reply was you have never done this before, eh?

So, I asked.

No matter if a plant like small or big pots they will not become good bonsai if the roots is squezed. At least not the nebari. It must grow unrestricted to become nice. Under ground is another issue.
