I have just rescued this Cork bark oak and was wondering if I could prune hard back to renew branch structure , and remove old and thick wood , how and when,any advice would be greatly apriceciate,

If this has not been pruned for 6 years, I would spend next year getting it back to health before doing massive pruning After 6 years healthy growth this should have looked like a shrub!
