One of my recent additions. Found this little Japanese green maple on 99 cent bonsai group on facebook. He spent a few days in transit from Connecticut, viaa USPS... I am aware he needs to live outside, giving him a day or two of rest after being in a box for 3 days... he's a cute little tree.

You are giving your tree a rest by keeping it in a lethal environment ( your living room) ?
Outside with it, ASAP

Did it come with wire on or have you put it there?

It went outside this morning with the juniper, and other maples. he only spent the night inside since he was kinda wilted from being in a box for 3 days. now he perked back up and he is outside with his new friends

It came with the wire on it. he only spent one night inside to perk back up from being in a box for 3 days, he looked like he recocered quickly from the travels, being in ac overnight, so now he is outside.

I was thinking about doing that and letting it grow more. It's kinda cute that size and in that pot...

This is the only moment you can get bends in the lower trunk. Removing the wire is a bad idea unless you like stick-straight trunks.

I myself put effort in the first stages of development, ensuring there is a start of a curve, even if schopped low later on.

I was thinking about taking it off because it had a long trip in a box and was kinda wilted looking, but today it looks mostly recovered so as you suggested, I will leave it on for awhile. At least it will have some bends in the trunk and not a stick.

If you leave it on you might want to concider using the wire to get movement on the trunk :). As it is now it is doing nothing.

I have wired trunks of acers a lot older than that tree, I see no hurry. And after not longer possible to bend movement and taper can be created via directional pruning. In the long run that can create better trees.
