Today and tomorrow I am at my bonsai classes. Theme.. Spring work on deciduous trees.
As all my trees are reasonably well maintained and do not need massive work, I normally grab some of the pre- bonsai stock from the shop and work on them.
Today one of them was this carpinus betulus. I am always amazed what happens if you take a ball of leaves overgrown with weeds, and you trim, repot and in general clean them up. As these are for sale as starter trees the key is to trim to make i look good and show potential buyers what the tree has to offer, while leaving enough to be done so customers still can claim "they" styled the tree. I am getting ever better at it.
One of todays projects, before and after, last repot before this about 10 years..

it is. And it was not to good tree I worked on.
'I did not take pictures, but the second tree I reclaimed might be promoted to the private collection of the museum. He did not want to tell me a price for the tree, as he was in doubt he wanted to sell it, once it was cleane dup and potted

I know it is rough. But it is not just a shrub. It is a stage further. Maybe the picture doesnt do the tree justice.
