Hi, I bough this ficus 2 years ago and it had a long thick root coming out the side. I decided to tie it kinda. About to repot here soon and I was wondering if this could possibly suffocate itself. If so I can cut or detangle it.

Ni matter if it Will suffocate itself or not, I would not keep such a root. Looks unatural to me. There seems to be much better roots to use below.

I am new here but I would cut it out as well. Although “cool” and “different”, it is also “unnatural” and “inauthentic” aesthetically

When repotting, look at the volume of roots comong of the big circular root. It might hold most of the roots this plant has. If so, you cannot just remove it. What you can to is take a nip out of the root, so taking half of the thickness. That will greatly reduce its dominance, and the plants will push the other roots.

If it has less than 25% of the root volume I would not be concerned about trimming it off but then I would do minimal trimming to the rest of the roots.
