Nice, do you plan on carving the deadwood?
I was thinking about getting me mume from eBay but supposedly they tend to die after flowering.
That they are kept in greenhouses after import and when you take them out they die.
I am getting a greenhouse next month though, so I might give it a go and slowly get it used to the exterior.
I was told that local garden centre got a batch of them and half of them died after repotting the same year, and the second half the following year.

The deadwood will slowly decay over time. No need to assist there . In fact, 2 (?) weeks ago I repotted and I removed the old bark & soft deadwood from the yin-shari. Eventually this tree will be hollow I suppose.
I have never heard about these dying after flowering. Must be the same story as mallsai and junipers dying as soon as you buy them: As long as you know how to care for plants, they will not die on you. Main challenge with mume is that they tend to grow leggy as backbudding is supposedly dificult. I have had loads of backbudding on mine so..
You do not need a greenhouse. These are hardy as nails afaik.

Well the person who got them was one of the most experienced bonsai artists in our country so I wouldn?t guess it was due to lack of knowledge.
But anyway I will probably give it a go ... as soon as I have some spare money.

Real stunning tree indeed LB! I'll follow this topic as I wanted to add a Prunus Mume to my little collection and just got myself a little one last Saturday for a few Euros...
Unfortunately this is the end of the flowering season so I'll enjoy more of it next year... but in the meantime I'll study and get the little tree acquainted in its new home!!
