‘Spearmint' is a Chinese juniper cultivar with a dense, columnar to narrow-pyramidal habit, typically maturing to 10-15' tall but to only 4' wide. Features mostly scale-like, bright green foliage which is attractive year-round.
I’m having a hard time finding out if this variety will be suitable for practicing my basic technique. They sell it at Home Depot and I can get a decent nursery stock pretty cheap. I love everything about it aesthetically so far but I can’t tell if I can treat it as bonsai or if I should leave it as a landscape plant. Anybody have experience with this one?
I already made the mistake of digging into an ‘Old Gold’ before learning it is impossible to create dense foliage pads. Fortunately I did not kill the Old Gold in my zest for (not-)bonsai so it will have a life as a yard plant.
