Hi guys

I'm new to the game and got this bad boy yesterday. I'm wondering though, before I repot it and get pruning and wiring; since its growing solely to one side would I be able to cut it across the red line (picture 1)?

1) Would that kill it?

2) Would that stimulate growth off to that side (the light green spray)?

3) If it would not stimulate growth of another branch, by cutting it there would it at least clean up that stumpy bit?

Any help would be appreciated!

what if you repot it and plant it that the main stem is at a 45deg angle (blue like in pic. then the branch will be more upright and you will have growth at both sides. then you can create some deadwood on that main branch

another option is to wire it and get the branch into a position that you want to see growth to both sides.

you can also look at a slanting style as as it already naturally grow at an angle

The side without branches is probably dead. If you start at the tip of the stump with a sharp knife, peel away the back untill you get to living bark (Which will be distinctly more juicy and green then the dead stump). Everythind that is dead you can then remove. Cut a sliver of the living bark and cover the whole area with cutpaste to stimulate the plant to grow over the dead area.
