Tiny one with chinese elm. The tree had disastrous crown so I removed it except for one branch and grew new one.

Hi Mimo, I really admire your penjings. I would like to start a penjing project on a slate with a small Ulmus mallsai (in the pic).
As I only use akadama for my trees I believe it would not be a suitable soil for a tree on a slate, would it?
Thanks and congrats for your works!

Hi Ricky, if akadama is your substrate of choice, go for it.
But you need to cover it with KETO and put some moss on it so it doesn?t wash away.

Thanks Mimo, yes, I'll do as you suggest.
And... how do you fix the tree to the slate? Do you drill a couple of holes to wire the tree?

A famous quote, whose speaker I forget, and whose exact wording I forget, is that 90% of genius is sweat. I will agree with Clicio on this one.
