Went for a hike in the woods today and came across this pretty little guy! Haven't decided if I will just plant it in the yard and let it thrive, or if I will try to train it. It has really big leaves, but with enough time and training they say it's possible to make a nice bonsai out of it! We shall see! I found lots of trees that I trimmed and got ready for later this season, or next year!

Also found a CRAZY tree! I wish I would have found it earlier in it's life! It looks like it's had a rough one! But there is still foliage on it!

Chestnut? I see it’s young, but it wasn’t too hard to digging up the roots?

To be honest.. I would put the chestnut in the garden.

I have hardly ever seen a reasonable bonsai out of them. I have never seen an excellent one. The leaves do reduce but not to a point that they come to scale with the rest of the tree, unless that has a 20cm trunk. This is just a young sapling, with not much going for it in taper, age, etc.
