YUp, the bubble generation that grew up only hearing that whatever they did was amazing. ANd they get insulted over hearing that what they did, was NOT amazing and that there is a lot of learning involved.

Guess what. Life is not served on a silver platter. And to get really great results, people have to work hard.
I think if Auk were here he would be the first person to agree he is absolutely no star talent in bonsai. But, from my side, he was working on getting btter every time he would work on a tree, and was critical of all trees he owns himself.

I really cant figure why he should be banned. We both been through some hard communications in the forum in the recent times but I always took him seriously and kind of teacher of all of us. Especially for the rookies. He was really tough with his language but he was honest and not ignorant. It is sad some people here are feeling good about his absence but forum lost a very special and imporant person, at least to me. I really hope we find out the reason for his ban and see him back one day, sooner or later.

I am going to step in this conversation and hope it doesn't get all over me. I see EVERYONE's point of view on both sides. This forum is international and people from all over come to discuss the art of bonsai. With that we have different culture backgrounds. Some cultures are blunt and thinks it's helpful where others might see it as impolite. This was pointed out to me today by someone else, I can't take credit for that connection.
On the other hand we have people brand new to bonsai visiting us everyday. Now we know all of the are green (pun intended) and 90% of the have a cutting, or grafted plant. They buy them with the label of bonsai and to the that is what it is. Now like most of you who have studied bonsai I don't like that people are being misled or are given a false impression of what bonsai is. The thing is now they are on our forum and it's up to us to help them and get them headed down the path.
Some good bonsai artist got their start with young plants in pots.

Absolutely nailed it with this comment my friend! I'm not into bad mouthing anyone and was merely annoyed that I bought, what I thought was a ficus ginseng bonsai. Auk was right and I now realise this after buying a few books on 名媛直播 from my local charity shop. The language and culture barriers, coupled with just typing (without seeing emotion) can be misunderstood and when read back, can seem rude and disrespectful.
I'm actually glad he told me some home truths as I have now got a refund from the eBay seller I bought the plant from.
I will be staying away from these mass produced, ugly grafted trees from now on.

Why would you get everyone over you? Na. This is a friendly forum. Don't worry. :evil:

The poin t you make is the one i make most of the time when this discussion pops up (Yes. It comes around the corner every few months). Not only is every culture different in communicating (Being international representative for my university, I realize this every single day) and the the Dutch are some of the most direct communicators I know, also are educational believes different.

In the Netherlands, teachings normally evolves pointing out mistakes, rather than te things that o well. And letting people find the right road. Being independent is a very important component in Dutch teaching. In other cultures, such as japan, teaching is done through showing. Ever heard of people in Japan learning bonsai? The Japanese students are luck to ever do anything but sweeping te floor and watering trees. Wiring and trimming are not for the first year students.

These differences in communication and teaching style define responses on a forum. My advice is: Look at what is written. Not at what may be meant. And then most of the things posted on the forum are helpfull, yet sometimes with low levels of information, Friendly, but perhaps not sugar coated. In the end, no-one gets paid to be on this forum. And nobody I know, willingly tries to discourage people.
