welcome here Trent, you don't have a place outside because the, know death assured, as long as I don't put a trash can now, it will save you from wasting time and tell yourself that a tree of interior, it does not exist

I've made a few posts already but haven't actually introduced myself.

My name is Jonathan. I live in the subarctic, near the James Bay in Northern Quebec. I moved here in 2018 with my wife and son to be closer to their culture. I've been obsessed with trees and nature since I was a child, so a remote place like this suits me just fine. I wouldn't consider myself an extreme outdoorsman, but I've always felt calm and at home in the bush, and a place like this has presented me with an opportunity to finally pursue bonsai. The wilderness is vast, and the amount of potential material is virtually limitless...

Drawing is how I express myself for the most part. For a time I thought I wanted to be an animator... until it nearly ruined drawing for me. As for bonsai, I've been more or less obsessed with it since the age of 15. But I lived in a bubble where the art didn't really exist outside of "Karate Kid"... Perhaps you know the feeling? I did my best with books and the internet, but the information was sort of vague and mysterious. Most of all it didn't really apply to the northern Canadian climate I lived in (even before I moved farther north). I didn't have access to clubs or anyone else who practiced it. I had a few trees I bought from a garden center, and I did a few experiments with overwintering local trees, but ultimately that's as far as it went for a long time.

Now that life has presented me with a real opportunity, I fully intend to take advantage of it!

I am thirteen, and I have not cultivated any specimens yet. I live in the Houston area with summers of 110 degrees Fahrenheit and 99% humidity. The winters are nice of only 40 degrees Fahrenheit. ;-;

Hi guys,

So glad to have found a bonsai community :)
My name is Romain, I'm from France, 38yo.
I discovered bonsai few months ago when I moved with my girlfriend who have one bonsai almost died on top of a shelf. I like challenges so I decided to start saving this poor tree. I confess I need some advices cause this bonsai is still not so healthy.
I live in France close to Paris, weather is good (not so rainy you can trust me :P). I really appreciate take care of plant, I should have arround 15 ones in my appartement.
Looking to discuss with you and to learn!

Have a great week

Bonjour et bienvenue.
Good to see you start with our addictive hobby, but ( a very big but), indoor and bonsai do not go together, there is no such thing as an indoor tree. Without knowing the species of the not so healthy tree i am almost 100% certain it is ill because its inside...

Hi!
I joined like a week ago, I’ve been interested/learning/“doing” bonsai since 1999 or so, but my wife and I have moved enough that I’ve never had a consistent, multi-year program really. A couple of mass-extinction events if you know what I mean.

We are in a stable place for a while now (probably? Haha wanderlust is strong though) so I’m expanding my numbers, and working on some long term projects. All of my trees are 3-10 year projects, even though some are in bonsai pots. They are all collected or from nursery stock, I’ve never bought a trained tree.

I’m in Pennsylvania, zone 6a/7b.

Have you tried growing from seeds? The Sakura cherry Blossom (Prunus Serrulate) and the Wisteria (Wisteria Floribunda) are good ones. I just ordered my seeds recently from Japan. My husband and I live in Frankfort, KY (We moved down here from Albany, NY last year). This will be my first ones from seeds and I am looking forward to the adventure as right now I am raising 2 Fukien Tea and one Ginseng ficus. They are coming along good.

you have to know when starting from a seed for the wisteria (Wisteria Floribunda), it will take 10 years or more to have a first flower
