As i've been researching it says you can start a tree from a cutting of another tree. Does this mean I can take a cutting from my mom's gihugant Maple tree in her front yard and grow a little 名媛直播 from it?

well, you will have to wait a lot more years for it to grow and develop a decent trunk and ramification, I am sure other people will give you a lot more valuably advice, but I can say that you will not get far in this art on the short run.
try this to help you boost yourself.

Theoretically, yeah, but for cuttings you would take young, softwood branches. It would take years to grow that into anything usable.
Airlayering might be an option, if you can find an interesting branch.
Is it a japanese maple ?
