I love stones in combination with trees, especially trees on rocks, looks more natural than trees in pots, although that has its magic too.
Well I wanted to make me something like this - I am sure you came across this one -



I tried it with one yamadori birch that grows in my garden now, but the process will take very long time.
And then one day I was sitting in my back garden watching father?s pear trees and notice a branch that could be more suitable, as it has quite developed braches that will serve the purpose and will make the base for further branching, appearing to be a tiny trees growing on raft.
So I air layered that branch and here it is pruned and wired to stone some 3-4 months later.

My pear survived winter allright.
I carefully moved it onto a stone slab where it has much more substrate for root growth.
I think I have my own raft bonsai inspired by Harry?s masterpiece quite soon
