When is the best time to trunk chop a Korean Hornbeam? I live in Southern Oregon. Current temp now on January 19th is 34 degrees.

Hello, Patty.
I didn't know temperatures in Oregon could be so high in the winter! Higher than in Brazil right now (32°C) and it's summer here.
Anyway, usually people chop by the end of the dormant season, late winter/spring.
From an american friend: "?If you want to chop a tree, watch the buds every day. If they start to swell before the end of January, chop then. If not, first week of February is about the latest I'd wait."

Thank you for the replies! I was thinking late winter or just pre bud break would be about right but wanted to
reach out to others who may have had experience with this variety already. We have actually had a very mild winter this year. Alot of pretty cold freezing fog, but none of the single digit or temperature in the teens we usually are known to experience. All my trees are comfy in a poly tunnel cold frame staying out of the winds.

How can you have freezing fog when the temperature stay above 0?

Of course, we could read some context, but that would be too easy.

In December we had lows about 20/-7 and since the lows 45/+7 or warmer. Last weekend the elms and a quince started budding out. Trim, trim, etc. Last night and the next two, back to 20/-7. Then it warms up to 24/-5. Then back above freezing.

Those trees are now in the unheated garage.

Oh, I forgot. Those are F/C, larger number is Fahrenheit.
