hand me down pots was created by simplysaid

I've recently been given 名媛直播 pots that were used by a co workers father. His father was the head grounds keeper for the United Nations in NY. His father has been dead for many years, and his son never took up the hobby. He generously gave me books, and when I recently asked about pots, a showed up with about 15 of various sizes. One has either Japanese or Chinese writing on it.
How would I go about finding the value in these pots?
I'd hate for them to fall into the wrong hands or get damaged from use.

Depends, but normally used pots hardly have a value. Unless when the previous owner had real quality trees and matching pots. Got pics?

Just got the pots today. I'll post pictures before next week. I'm honored that my friend would let me have these pots and I don't think I could part with them. About 7 of them are Shohin or Mame pots, 3 are Kifu and 4 are Daiza.

Of course not. I got three trees from my colleagues mother, who got to old to take care of them. They entrusted me with this and I'm proud of that. Of course they get the best care I can give them.

I may be old fashioned, but it's an incredible honor to be trusted with someone's personal possesion. My grandfather used to have a lot of great quotes, one of them was, "always leave it better than when you took it". He referenced something that you borrow. But I apply it to many situations.
Part of the reason I endevor this hobby, learn from what's passed down, and to pass down what I learn.

Can't say I'm an expert on pots, but I do not see anything special - meaning nothing rare and no high quality pots or masterpieces. That doesn't mean the pots are bad, they are just regular bonsai pots - but better than the cheap mallsai ones.

I'd be happy to get such a collection though - there are some good sizes in there, and a couple of bigger ones I really could use :)

The value of the collection though doesn't seem very high. There are many bonsai enthousiasts that get into a buying frenzy, buy lots of pots and trees, find that it actually isn't so easy to maintain such a collection, and end up with loads of dead trees and empty pots. On our local e-bay there's a large offer of such used pots - hence the price is quite low (though I do have to add that such collections usually do contain large amounts of the familiar and identical blue or green mallsai pots).

If you'd had to buy them all new though, it'd cost you more, of course.

I'm ok with regular pots. This collection was given to me with the trust that I would use them. They will probably go to my son one day, if he chooses to take up the hobby. I appreciate you being honest. I'm actually a little relieved that none are rare and expensive.
And I'll hold onto the large ones for when I need them. Unless you'd like to trade for something?
New pots work just as well as old I guess. Some have the holes plugged up. I wonder if I can drill them out?
