Hello everyone,
I collected this Hawthorn a couple of weeks back and posted it on the 2017 trees post by leatherback but I'm making it its own post hoping that it will make a long progression
Chosen front (for now)
Back .
The buds have started opening up so that's a good sign

Hm.. I like the big piece of wood you are showing here. Curious to see what you make of it after playing with it!

very nice tree. i always have the difficulty to have that future perspective, in other words i can?t get to imagine how the tree could be like you drawn.

I would reconsider that image. What you have drawn is what a pine would look like. Not what a mature hawthorn would look like. They are more round on top, typically.

I was actually just thinking about that just before I read your reply lol I made that drawing just to give myself an idea but I will work on a proper paper drawing and your inputs will be very helpful, I still need to have a deep look at more Hawthorn bonsai and trees to give myself a better idea

Start by looking at images of hawthorn in the open, or on hills etc. 名媛直播 are also just artistic impressions. Get a feel for the normal growth habit, then see what is possible with bonsai. (Don't try to make your tree look like a bonsai, but make your bonsai look like a tree)Enaisio wrote: I still need to have a deep look at more Hawthorn bonsai and trees to give myself a better idea
How much more branch is there than we can see in the pic?

Thanks leatherback , there is about another 10 15 cm more trunk at the top and 5 or 6 branches coming out of it and they all have some live buds , may I ask why you asked this ?

the trunk seems to have some character. COnsider all the options before cutting things off.

OK I understand why asked now Im actually still not sure where to cut it but from the point where it is hollow onwards it's pretty straight and has no taper so I was thinking of cutting from there but now you've gave me doubts hahahaha I will post a pic of the top tomorrow just to show you anyway I don't think I'll be doing any cutting till next year
