I want to thank all you gave me much needed advice to get my jade outdoors . Since I put these little guys outside it has burst with new growth. I probably need to trim it but right now I'm loving watching it be healthy and grow, even new buds off of the main trunk that will probably go, but so cool to watch now.
I'm learning to watch my tree/plants to know when to water them and am starting to see subtle differences in how conditions affect them. My deck where I keep some smaller plants can be very sunny, even in Michigan, our sun can really blaze. I'm preparing a small section that will have screen over it, which will filter the sun for those plants that don't want full sun.
I put the word fertilizer in the search bar and have spent the last few days reading all the posts. What a boatload of information.
I have two little junipers that I picked up in town. I slip potted them into clay pots and got rid of the glued stone crap. It was an act of mercy for the poor little guys, hopefully they will survive with me and someday grow into potential bonsai. I just finished reading how it's best to put them in the ground even though they are small. We could possibly have snow the end of November in Michigan, sometimes -not always, I wonder whether I should keep them in the pots until spring since they do not have long to get roots established in the ground now. The junipers love the deck and stay outside. If they stay in pots, I plan on leaving then outside in a sheltered area with mulch around the pots.
I'm not sure it shows great on the photos, but the first was taken right after I bought the jade. The second was taken tonight exploding with new growth.
Thanks again to all of your wisdom and advice.

Sorry I probably should have started a new thread for my question about the baby junipers. Oops

it's your thread :cheer: ...
btw your jade looks good, still not sure what to do with mine. they need protection, because they do break easily. At least they're fast growers.

As for the juniper, at least they're not the slowest. A bunch, faster in the ground, can you show me a picture. B)

Samanatha, I finally got a photo of the little ones taken. Ground or pots for a Michigan winter?

Nice little trees, they'll be alright. Search for wintering bonsai, I sort of mulch up leaves, and the pots in them. Of course, I'm not in MI. Do you have an unheated shed, with a window?

Why with a window? I've already replied to you before with evidence showing that light is not needed while the trees are in dormancy temperatures.

Junipers aren't tropical or succulents.
