This is a Forysthia I got at home depot for $12. Below, the tree after structural pruning:






Here is the tree today, few weeks after re-potting




The flowers are gone, and the tree has started to grow. As you can see, the tree has a long way to go. I am going to focus and develop the secondary branches.

Would be an interesting thing to watch.

A "yellow bush", might just make a nice bonsai. You might have a time with "suckers" though. It's an old time favorite bush around here.

This bush is growing so fast. I'll post some new pictures on a week, again my goal with this is to get some secondary branches, and try and get better taper. I have ever a dilemma with the tiny branch that seems out of place. And yes, it is out of place, it is a sacrifice branch, and it is growing faster than anything else
. Should I leave it or take it out? It is too close to the bottom of the trunk, so I am not sure if it will truly help with taper.

I would keep an eye on that sucker, or it may end up giving you a bulge over the roots, and some reverse taper.

I think if you can get the foliage tight enough, it will make a great flowering bonsai.

Help me please, as I don't understand: how would a sucker cause reverse taper?
Also, what is it that you consider a sucker? The first low brach?

I didn't mean sucker, as in the type of growth. I meant it more as in I'm Gonna Get You Sucka!.

I'm talking about the skinny, long branch, shooting straight up from the right. I had a branch like that on a Fukien, and I lost track of it. A year later, the trunk had a huge bulge where the branch was. Made the bottom of the trunk looked like a rope with a knot in it.

This one doesn't have a sucker problem now, they like to sprout bunches of branches out of the roots.

That's not the same as reverse taper ?

It is a branch, not a sucker. The branch is exactly located where it seems to be at the picture. I left it as a "sacrifice branch" but it seems to be a bit to close to the bottom, and it might not be very helpful to help me with taper. What do you think Auk? should I leave it? cut it?
