Here are a few pictures of my little Spruce. I got it at camp last spring. This spring I pinched off all the new growth to promote back budding. It worked. The tree got really bushy. This winter I'll cut off the bar branches and start it's training.
Picture 1. is the tree in spring.
picture 2. is it now

Any idea what style you're going for?
i'll follow this to see it in a few months.
Good luck with the new tree.

Because of the curve in the trunk, this tree needs to look soft and feminine.....that's the idea now.
I'll probably put curves in the branches that remain after the chop.

Hey Lance,
Nice work! What difference the pinching back made. Well done!
Naturally, I have a question... You said you will be cutting off the "bar branches" this winter...what are the "bar" branches, please?

Hi Leslie,
Bar branches grow from the same height on opposite sides of the tree.

Cutting the bar branches make most spruce look awful for a long time. I'm kind of scared to do it. I will, and it will be fine. I'm freaked out any time I do major work on a tree. I always think I'm going to kill it. I haven't yet and every tree I've worked on has turned out okay.
Yes...yes... I'm crazy. I know haha
