the end of winter is coming, and I am starting to plan and do some work on some of the appropriate trees. I am happy with the bottom third of this trident maple, but would like some input/ideas about the top half or two thirds.
I will need to repot this year, I wanted to last year, but I got the tree well after the buds started opening.
I know the bubble wrap is not doing anything right now.. I loosened it up, because it is warm.

I would consider reducing it, to the point where you have the bend in the main trunk. I see a small vertical branch there. That would be a potential pruning place.

you mean the vertical branch on the left? I had thought about doing that. The taper up to there works, beyond there, it really doesn't. That's something I could do now, right?

of course, it is only a picture, but I like the general idea... the top part of this tree never really worked for me.

So I made the cut. there is a branch to the right that I might take off in the end. But as I need to repot I might lay off on taking a lot of branches..

So I unfortunately completely misjudged the size of the rootmass on this guy, and because of this I got a pot for it, that was not even close to the right size. I would have had to take 60% of the root mass to get it to fit into the pot I wanted.. so back into the training pot he went. I set the tree a little bit lower in the pot than it originally was, did some root pruning and hopefully it should be ok.. with all the warm weather we've had, many of my trees are starting to wake up. I won't have to worry about too much sun, now that the weather has changed.

Nice little tree. Do keep tracl of the branches on top. They risk getting too fat!
