First time owner - dropping leaves

This is my first time posting here. My husband and I are first time bonsai owners. We have read the care manual that came with our little tree and have been caring for him in the following ways:
-He is placed by a window, rotated 180 degrees every two weeks.
-We keep the window closed to avoid it getting too chilly for him. If we open it at night, we move him to avoid exposing him to the draft.
-We water him by immersing his pot up to the rim in a vessel lukewarm water when his soil feels almost, but not quite, dry. We then drain him and carry him back to the window.
-We have fertilizer, but were told not to use it in winter.
He has been showing new growth, but this week he began dropping leaves. Attached please find a picture. We are quite attached to our little tree and would appreciate any advice you have for us.
Many thanks,
Alexandra

At least...that's what you thought, until someone told you this is not a bonsai.
The care instructions you got are generic. Look up the specific care guidelines for your plant (assuming you know what species it is).

Don't do that. This is a succulent. Water it normally, and don't water too much.

Yep it is true, it is a succulent and too much water may very well cause it to drop leaves.
I got one funny adenium that drops all of the leaves whenever I water it.
Even if I water after 2 weeks.
Little bastard, I wanna see if it can keep it up till spring.

I'm struggling to find anything in that article about strawberries except that they are particularly amenable to NO.
Can you explain?
