Bonai's are drooping and loosing colour was created by bstreet13

Hi,

I started growing Silver Birch bonai's from seeds about this time last year. It's been going well until now and they're about 10/15 cm's tall now but over the past week or so they seemed to be drooping and loosing their colour.

I've read somewhere that I could have been over watering it?

Does anybody know if that's the case? Either way, any idea how I can resolve it? May be new, but I'd be gutted if they die!!

Thanks
Ben

So, your seedlings are drooping, not your bonSai.

I've read somewhere that I could have been over watering it?

Looks like you're keeping them indoors ?

but I'd be gutted if they die!!

I wonder - if killing a few seedlings gets you gutted, what would happen if you kill a bonsai? That does happen to all of us.

Like I say, I only started a year ago, and it was a box kit for beginners so I still know very little.

I am keeping them indoors, is that the wrong thing to do at this time of year? If so, could you offer solutions as to how I could avoid the seedlings dying?

There's no such thing as bonsai seed. They are not bonsai, but normal silver birch seedlings.

No, that is the wrong thing ANY time of year. They are trees. Trees belong outside.

If so, could you offer solutions as to how I could avoid the seedlings dying?

You may want to start telling us something about how you have treated them, things like location, watering, repotting, fertilizing. Your location and local climate would be useful to know.

Right guys, so I've asked for a little help because clearly I've done something wrong, not to be bombarded and told that I shouldn't be bothering with a subject you're clearly all interested in.

Rather than mocking me about how I'm not an expert or how I haven't used the correct terms, has anyone got any actual advice at all that could actually help me?

No one is mocking you about not being an expert. You don't have to be an bonsai-expert to grow seedlings. People may raise an eyebrow though, as apparently you've had your seedlings for a year but didn't even bother to figure out the basics. One of them is that trees don't live indoors.

or how I haven't used the correct terms, has anyone got any actual advice at all that could actually help me?

The information is available on this very website:

so you could have found this yourself, easily:

"Put the prepared seedbed outside" *

but if you still want answers, are you going to answer the questions ?

* Note: I am NOT telling you to put them outside now, they're not used to it

I am in doubt whether they have been indoors since germination. I think they have just been placed indoors for winter.
I would place them in a frost-free shed, which is maximum 10 degrees. It should go dormant. And then unfortunately, will have to wake up again in a month or so. But well. Don't know. Have never tried to keep trees awak during winter.
