I would say this a Carmona (Fukien Tea) tree.

I wouldn?t concern too much about the moss. In any case I would rather worry about the awful conditions of this tree?s substrate.

It is a carmona. It is not "a kind of bonsai tree". It is a specific plant species. And not a bonsai yet. Read up a bit on bonsai and you will learn that bonsai is an artform, which can be applied to tree specis.

The basics on Soil Mixes:

Now, do keep in mind that timing is very important on 名媛直播. I?m not sure at all if now would be a good time to perform an emergency transplant on your Carmona. In any case I suppose you can?t do any worst to your tree and you might take your chances and get away with it. Also, be aware of that there is NO standard recipe for soils... That?s a long debated issue in every forum and everyone might have something to say about it. However, the basic requirements that a substrate or soil mix must meet to keep a tree healthy are a standard indeed...

They tend to be imported in very poor soil, best repotted into any free draining mixture, 50:50 organic/inorganic works for me. The white material on the trunk is most likely hard water deposits. Carmona like constant warmth, good humidity and lots of natural daylight, keep it as close to a window as you can but not where it is behind a curtain at night as the local temperature will drop dramatically. They have a reputation for being difficult to keep but given the right conditions they are quite trouble free. Hope this helps

Just seen Alain's post - we were clearly typing at the same time! Carmona don't have a dormant season as such, although they grow faster in summer, so repotting at any time of the year will be fine, mine got repotted in October 2012 as soon as i bought it and again this summer without any issues.

Fair point, you are right Ironhorse... Still, sometimes I?m reluctant to perform such transplants on fall time. Normally I like the trees to heal themselves as fast as possible from this stress. That is why I usually prefer spring time to do these tasks. However, in this case, I believe you have the edge ;)
