Hi barnes,

Next time, ask before you buy ;)

It is a ligustrum as far as I can tell from the pictures. Please note that this is not a bonsai, but a shrub in a pot..

Putting a label 'bonsai' on it does not make it a bonsai.
名媛直播 is not a tree species, it's a technique. Still, vendors put the tag 'bonsai' on it, to sell it as a bonsai.

This ligustrum, with it's cut off top, has no characteristics of a bonsai at all. It can even hardly be called a pre-bonsai.

It can become a bonsai, but it requires moving it to a big pot, or ratyer planting it in full ground, and a couple of years of growth and training.

Auk is right, as Lb said, it is a shrub in a pot, but there must be something on the back of the "label".

Just curious... how come you did not see the difference between that what is sketched on the label (a cascading style conifer) and that what you bought (an unstyled deciduous shrub) ?

trouble with labels is they tend to be catch all, and not much use. the symbols means little. buy a book and read it, check bonsai4me.com for species guides and two very good books
geoff.
typing with one hand at the moment, can't be bothered to use caps.
