Elm(?) parking lot project was created by Shaunlew21

Hello!

I collected these trees from an abandoned parking lot. The lot is riddled with cracks, which are filled with these tiny "natural" looking bonsai's. I have a very green thumb, but still have a few questions:

1. I believe these to be some sort of elms but am not sure. Positive id?

2. They are obviously lacking some color. I collected them with the colors they currently have, only potted these little guys a few days ago. I expect them to green up a bit within a week or so, opinions?

I am somewhat new to the art, I have trade half hearted attempts in the past with little to no success. I am looking forward to using this forum and it's members as a great resource. Any and all insight is greatly appreciated!

-Shaun

Found on a parking lot and assuming Shaun is not from China, do you think that's likely ?

China is ther origin but has spread exeedingly throughout america and a few other countries. So yes it is more than possible. And as he said it is pretty run down so there is exposed soil to be presented to the runners and seeds. There are more possibilities than you think.

Considering your history of posts on this forum it is interesting that you say there are more possibilities than I think, but:

"The Chinese Elm is a tough landscape tree, hardy enough for use in harsh planting situations such as parking lots, in small planters along streets and in plazas or patios. The tree is arguably the most ubiquitous of the elms, now found on all continents except Antarctica"

I'd like to see a close-up of the leaves though, before deciding what it is or may be.

Sorry about the thank you i keep on doing that. I am humble and you are not that is why we have argument. I have a mind that is a bit more open then yours so you may think that my ideas and theories are irrelevant. And sinse i am not a professional horticulturist of course i will be wrong and also considering my age i will be wrong some times so you do not have to rub it in my face with your grubby hands.

LOL... but whoa, hold it. I was agreeing with you:

Just an update..

I had a harder time than I thought trying to get them back to a healthy state. They dropped almost all leaves and appeared to be dead..but with a little tlc life prevailed and this is where they are. The last photo is a close up of the leaves, obviously. They still need some time to mature without a doubt and I'm sure I'll catch some heat for the wiring, especially it being green. But it is what it is, input greatly appreciated.
