Hey everybody,
I just introduced myself,
So anyone interested enough is welcome to see what I'm about under the introduction topic.
As for the matter at hand,
I'm such a noob, it's probably gonna hurt.
But I got to start somewhere and intuition is all I got for now.
I've bought a Japanese Black Pine starter kit (from seeds) and collected two young saplings from around my neighborhood.
I'd ask you kindly for any bit of feedback, tips and/or suggestions you got so I can do a better job in the future.
1. Japanese Black Pine starter kit
About a month ago, I bought a Japanese Black Pine starter kit. Following instructions, I managed to get three healthy seedlings.
This image is hidden for guests.
pic taken April 25th.
Today I planted them in small ceramic pots, which are going to be their new home for the next couple of years.
But I decided to do a little experiment as I go along.
One of them was planted in the original kit's composte of unknown mix (pic 1). The other was planted in a mixed soil of Hoffman's bonsai soil + Miracle-Gro's moist control potting mix (pic 2).

The third seedling is still too short and young to be relocated. So he awaits.
2. Saplings
Silver Maple
All around my neighborhood, grow beautiful big Silver Maples.
Around this time of year, you get to see all the little young trees, struggling to grow as fast as they can and get sturdy enough againts the winter to come.
Just outside my house, I discovered this interesting looking young sapling. I decided to collect him and give him a new home, looks and purpose in life.

The living green branch you see sticking up was wired by me to that position. I'm currently waiting for a small starter tool kit that's making it's way to me as we speak, so I had to use an alternative kind of wire for the job (that will be replaced as soon as I get the proper one).
I know, it would probably be better if I left the plant growing in the grownd, as I saw suggested in a different post. But it was growing in an area that is planed for construction, sticking from under the pavement, with poor light source and a broken trunk.
So I guessed, better in a pot than dead... right?
The Unknown Child
This is the one I need help identifying.
Same story as before. Was collected from the same construction area. Looked interesting enough to bring home and care for.
Problem is, I don't know if it's a tree or a weed. Figured since it has a nice trunk, it's probably a tree.
Also don't know if it's suitable for 名媛直播 training. What do you think?

Now that I look at it, the pic might not be clear enough. I'll try to get a better one when I get back home.
One thing about the root pruning.
When I got them out, I couldn't do it gentley since they were growing from UNDER the pavment. A bit of pulling and manhandling was required.
The unidentified kid was pulled without many thin roots, mainly big ones that had to be cut.
I hope I didn't over do it. After planting, they looked tired and sad.
I probably need better repotting habbits. Maybe I waited too long untill I finally put them in the soil? Perhaps I pruned too much living roots and didn't leave enough for the plant to recuperate?
I'll be glad to post updates if anyone is interested.
For now though, I'd be happy for any piece of advice, feedback and tips.
Thanks for reading!

dont feel silly, if they didnt die in the winter id have one potted. the "trunks" get pretty twisted and narly.hey its in a pot see what you can do, herbs, and vines get bonsai'ed maybe it wont die if its brought inside. they are really fast growers so it will give you some pruning practice...hmmm ive got some growing on a fence right now hmmm

The nightshade (if that's what it is, I have no idea so I'll agree) looks much happier since you've potted it! The maple is really pretty. Personally, I have a thing for growing pines. I think they look so cool. I have a bunch of Japanese black and white pines that I bought off of eBay, and some Himalayan pines that I grew from seeds. They are pretty, they are a bluish color instead of the green. I like how they all look like they have arms stretching up to the sky.
Good luck with your trees!

Okay, I had to post a picture of my little pines. You can't really tell that the himalayan pine is blue (it's the one in the single picture all by itself) but they are a really neat blue/green color. My black pines were very small a couple of months ago, and when I gave them more space by taking them out of the small pots and putting them in the bigger window planter they've really shot up. Not saying you should do that though, our circumstances could be totally different and I never know if my trees are surviving because of something I did or because of luck!
I'll back off of your thread now
