The label reads (( juniper pardoning )). Just trimmed pot down and cut some lower small branches so you can see bottom. Before I do anything I would like expert opinion on what or how I should go about my work before I ruin another one with my impatience. One thing I know is that I don’t want it any bigger in height than it is. Would like to keep my work on shelves on my outdoor patio (screened in, gets sun from sides and top). Thanks in advance Stuart p.s. I live in zone 9b

Hello just a follow up on last post. This seems like it has 2 trunks sending 1 more picture. Could it be 2 or 1 trunk hidden down further. That would mean pulling out of pot to find out, wich means a repot. What do you think I should do. This is a lot of fun. Thanks again Stuart

The first thing I would do (after one year of doing nothing but watering) is to dig down and see if it is one tree with a low growing branch or if it is actually two trees. If two, I would separate them. If one tree, decide which trunk to keep, or decide for cascading if suitable.

I'd love to see what you could show us about the underlying structure; It's hard to tell from a picture, especially with the foliage. Past that, I'm enthusiastic to see what anyone with more experience than me would say about potential strategies. I'm working with some young nursery stock myself and would find that very helpful.

In line with Tropfrog's advice, I'm only advocating for a strategy as opposed to taking any action at this time.

Knowing you’d like to start working on trees directly, I would say finding out might be possible by slowly scraping the toplayer of soil off. At least it will give you time to think about the next stage. But no more than that I’d say. Like tropfrog says: keep it alive first.

A slight missunderstanding there.

Raman is 80 years old and a total beginner. I often tell people it is good to go slow, but in this case I don't want to and it makes no difference. Roman will dig into it and come back with an after picture soon. (EDIT I wrote that without reading the last post, picture will come soon:))

Hence I wrote what I would do, not a recomendation to Raman. Just do your thing. More trees and more styling attempts increase the chanse that one of them becomes a nice and healthy pre bonsai in time.

The more I look on the photo, the more I think this is a really good cascade material.
