I got this Fukien Tea for my birthday and I would really appreciate some advice on where to start. I don’t know if I need to prune it, if the soil is right or even the pot. I will be grateful for any possible advice.

When watering there should come a steady stream out of the drainage holes.

It looks fine but it takes a lot of soil away. Would it be possible that it is the wrong soil, as it is ordinary, which is used in stores?

The soil the tree came in is the very soil it was produced in. If it is good for comercial production, it is good for beginners. Althou it may not be the best soil for long term development, it is less of a threat to the plant than a beginner repotting at the wrong time of the year.
If it is draining well, do not repot.
You have got yourself one of the hardest trees to keep alive. So your focus should be on plant health only. Get the care and environment right. If the tree is still alive and healthy in a year you can start thinking about pruning and styling.

Oh interesting, I read everywhere that it is among the easiest trees to maintain. So should I not trim anything for 1 year or just no major changes?

In this forum we have 100s of beginners asking why their fukiens is dieing and nobody that know the answer. So eigther the experienced bonsai keepers in the forum don't know how to grow trees or your sources is wrong. They may be easy to grow in the tropics, but in temperate regions they are not.
I would not recomend pruning anything before the tree actually grows in your care.
