Hi,
I just bought a Pittosporum and the root system is very bad ( Very bad soil and very bad drainage from soil. and pot ).
I just replant it in a colander ( i cut the dead roots) i want the tree to focus on building new roots, should i defoliate it completely ?
Also it's starting to make flowers, should i cut them ?
Thanks !
PS: the tree is still alive, a scratched the trunk and there is some green under the bark. ( i also remove all the leaves that were brown and dry at the end )

Defoliation is a technique used right before shows to promote regrowth of smaller leafs.
It is very stressful and should only be done on fully healthy trees and not every year.
Defoliation is never a solution for unhealthy trees.

Making flowers is very energy intense process. I dont know the species in particular. But remove buds to streagthen the tree is quite often done on other species. So it may well be worth a try.

the tree was won and suffered stress, it was wrong to give it time to recover, no fertilizer before a month, kept it in the shade, what country are you in!!!

I am in Lagos Portugal, pretty hot climate here.
I will leave it in the shade and spray some water on the leaves everyday if possible, hopefully it will recover.
Thx for your help everyone

be careful not to over-spray the leaves but follow the watering well of the earth
