Be helping the tree out by changing that out.

The month depends on local climate.
By late March all of my trees in Alabama were in full leaf. Yesterday I drove across northern Utah and there were deciduous trees just leafing out.

If you just bought it, and it came out a greenhouse, then it needed some time to adjust to the sun (hardening off period)
When there is a heat wave, of a day with a exterme high UV index rating. Then my boxwood will get sunburned on its top. It has always recoverd. I never protect that shrub.
edit: Also your substrate look like big rocks. Is that only the top dressing, or did you use that also for the substrate?

Read Leatherback his awser in that topic, about where to use those big particals for
And what size of substrate you need to use for smaller tree's.
I would do a repot on this tree, so it has the right soil.
