Posted 3 years 7 months ago #68698Really love this tree. I’ve been growing small trees( 6in to 6ft) for 9 years and only started shaping and pruning last year. Want to get this tree looking the best it can. Any advice really appreciated. Kind regards. Johnny

What would be the advantage of air layer over cutting the branches off and rooting them as cuttings?
It seems air layering is really the same as cuttings.

Maples root badly from cuttings and its just possible to root small twigs. Airlayering can be done on very old and thick wood.

Posted 3 years 7 months ago #68744Maples seem to do better when they do not get midday sun, although I have not had any trouble with it. The main styling challenge will be with the two main trunks you have.
From the one picture, and with leaves, it is really hard to give recommendations. I for one, cannot even see what you mean with the thing sticking from the sol you would like to remove!
For repotting, the tree is now too far in leaf. I would wait with it.
