New bonsai broken pot questions was created by Mattsabonsainoob

My first tree came and it looks very healthy, but the pot was broken. I put it in a rectangular plastic pot i had available.

The tree is a pomegranate, from Brussels. I'm here for suggestions on what to look for to help prevent problems from repotting , and just having a new tree in general.

I read I should wait till winter to repot, trim and maintenance so I'm trying to avoid any more changes than I need.

I attached 2 pictures for visual.

There has to a reason to re pot, not just because you think you want to. If the soil is not draining well, or if the tree is badly potted then it is done in spring.

Thanks for the response. I didn't know if I should plan on repotting to get a look at the roots, or just get a good look at it since I just kinda threw it into the new pot.

Repot if you need to in the beginning of the Spring.
Take a look ta the roots carefully, this plant is already stressed.

What I would do is take a picture of the broken pot, put the pieces back around the root ball and tape it pot back together, send the picture to Brussells along with the order number, etc., and ask them for a replacement pot. Then when it comes, put the root ball in the new pot with as little disturbance of the roots as possible.

I almost kept the broken pot but it's in quite a few pieces, so I threw it out.

I actually just got a replacement, and they sent a whole new tree.

Good Customer Service.
Now you have two trees to take care of, which means 50% more chances to make one of them beautiful!

Actually, The chance of making a beautiful tree was increased by 100%.

Sorry, Topfrog, probability teacher here. If the probability of the first tree being beautiful was a and the second was b, the probability of getting ar least one beautiful tree is now 1-(1-a)*(1-b) which is higher than either a or b but never double.

Thanks again for the fast responses.

I've been seeing I should plant it in the ground for a few years to thicken the trunk up.
I'm in NW Ohio and a little worried about the winters.
Is it a bad idea to put it in the ground from spring to fall, then pot through the winter?
