Ficus ginseng leaves below graft was created by EcologicallyLiving
Posted 4 years 5 months ago #61317I have a ficus ginseng that has growth both from the grafted plant and the root plant. I didn't realize they were two separate entities until recently, and now I don't know what to do. The grafted plant with the smaller leaves has two branches with 12 leaves, it is still green and growing. The root plant has 4 branches with 36 leaves and is growing most rapidly. What should I do? sacrifice the grafted plant, or trim the root branches so the grafted plant gets the nutrients? Thank you for any help.

For next time: Give your questions some time. Not everyone is online 24/7 and it is always best to get a range of opinions and explanations why certain actions are preferred.

Once I had a similar question, asked three people, got four different answers, and wound up doing a fifth. All four pieces of advice ended with, "but it's your tree."

The tree was produced, sold and bought as ficus ginseng. Cutting the above graft growth and leave the below graft would would mean it is not longer a ficus ginseng. So in the end it is a question if you purshased what you want or not.
I dont Think that anyone that has answered in this thread would ever buy a ficus ginseng. Hence would not need to shoose themselves. Ginsengs are really hard (maybe even impossible?) to make a bonsai.
