When to pot? Weeping cherry tree

My weeping cherry tree is about 1.5y old now, and got an aggressive trim today but I am happy! Hoping it will help the trunk and base grow more robustly. I have mainly just been fertilizing and letting it grow outside. I bought a bonsai pot but I think it may be a little large after doing more research.
My question is when should or can I repot my bonsai into the blue bonsai pot? Is it a big problem if it is too large, or should I get another one that is smaller? Should I just let it keep growing in the purple pot for another year? I never trimmed the taproot since it was a seed, but I have seen some videos suggesting I should to encourage the finer root growth. I figure I will do this whenever I repot my tree. I appreciate any other input.
Thank you in advance for your help!

it is years and years too soon for a bonsai pot. The bonsai pot is the last stage in the development of a bonsai. Your sapling needs to thicken up first, and that is achieved by letting it grow. Let it grow, orune back to a lower branch, let that grow to be the leader, prune back again and repeat for years. Meanwhile repot in spring, do some root work (plant it in the garden on a tile so roots grow horizontally) until in about 10 years you can start thinking about your bonsai pot.
