Help! Dying 名媛直播 Tree? Video was created by atkinsd91

Hello,

So I've had this bonsai tree for about 6 months now, which I think is a Chinese Elm. I've been worried that recently it's not thriving too well... the new buds that appeared on some of the overgrown branches had died out before blooming properly. I'm worried it may be to do with the soil... but any advice is much appreciated. It was a gift also... so really want to make sure I do the best for the little guy!

Please view the video and let me know what you think. Any questions please ask!

Many thanks in advance.

Put it outside, but let it get used to strong sun slowly.

Stop fertilize right away.

Repotting in spring if the tree is back to health.

Many thanks.

It's not quite straightforward for me to leave outside.. is by the window in the sunlight not enough?

Also, what's the reason for stopping the bonsai feed just out of interest?

The reason to put it outside is to put it in the Environment that it is evolved in. Sun, wind, humidity, rainfall. All of them play a role.

Plant fertilizer is like vitamins for the tree. It can be to much. The demand the tree needs is dtermined by growth. No growth, no need for fertilizer.

Fertiliser is not food for a plant, sunlight is. Direct sunlight that is, behind a window it's filtered ( you don't get sunburned behind a window)

Thanks guys.

So is this bonsai tree not really an indoor one? Or do all indoor bonsai trees, etc. require at least some level of direct sunlight?

Would an hour of a morning suffice each day?

There is no such thing as an indoor tree really... ( not one tree in the entire world lives naturally indoors..). There are species that need warmer temperatures which our homes can provide, but at the same time they need high humidity, which our houses don’t have.
So, forget about “indoor “ bonsai and get your tree outside where it should be.

in all honesty there is not such thing as a indoor tree. you may need to bring some trees indoors for winter protection but in all reality they belong outside. and when i say indoors its a unheated garage or greenhouse. ideally the tree needs more than an hour and if you planning to move the tree to one location for an hour then move it again daily then its only a matter of time the tree will die, trees like stability.

The reason for not fertilizing is that as you fertilize, you add salts into the soil. When a plant is doing well, it actively takes up these salts to grow and build the cells and their components. HOwever, as it is not growing, it is not taking up as much. Sal concentration rises. At some point there are so many salts in the soil that the roots cannot deal with it anymore and start to die.
