Pine Seed, which way round? was created by treesensei

Hello, I recently picked up one of those grow your own bonsai kits as it was ridiculously cheap. I have stratified the seeds and shoots have begun to grow out one end.

This is probably a stupid question but I'd rather ask than get it wrong! Have I planted the seed the wrong way round? It looks like a root to me but the instruction with the set say to plant it upwards.

Thanks in advance
Nick

Even if the seed had been planted upside down, I think you can trust nature to know which side is "up".
I've never seen a pine growing with roots in the air and branches underground ;-)

Perfect! I wasn't sure if I'd end up killing it that way but I will leave it do its thing.

Thank you for the help BofhSkull.

..apart from that, you do know that there will not grow bonsai out of these seeds but normal trees?

I think what LucR meant was that the package may say bonsai seeds but they are the same seeds as come out of pine trees in the woods.

Let them grow outside until you see the inner bonsai inside the tree. This will take some years.

Yea. You grow trees from seeds. Then you make bonsai out of the tree. At least 10 years inbetween the two of them. For pines a lot more. That is why i purshase trees to make into bonsai. I am just to old to spend 20 years or more before i get there.

As people try to point out, many of us do not have the time to follow that road.
Not all roads lead to where you want to get, and if you don't have any driving experience and don't know where you are going, you probably should not try to get there yet either, as usually, this leads to accidents.

Everybody has time to follow the road. As long as your destination is the road and not the exhibit-ready bonsai.

People should focus more enjoying what they are growing and less on the state of things and the time needed to get to the final image. Only then can you grow bonsai that improve every year without being frustrated that things dont go fast enough.
