White pine needles turning yellow at the tips was created by LRRP

Hello, I'm brand new here and my first post is of course reaching out for help. I live in central Florida and have a white pine that was grafted to a black pine base. The tree is about 7 years old and over the past two months, the needles have turned yellow at the tips. I've attached a picture for reference. Any idea what this might be from? I have almost a dozen other white pine trees (no grafted) that I've been growing from seedlings that are just fine.

Thanks!

Karl

Can be many things. I think I see webs, not spider webs though so it could be spider mites. Did you check for that?
Other than that... overwatering, underwatering, bad soil, graft not done properly, impossible to tell without more background information.

You cannot really compare grafted and non-grafted pines, imho. I have both. My white pine has yellowing needles (which is normal, they are the old ones) and it has buds that are growing, so that's OK. My grafted white pine is full of green needles and new buds...

I keep it outside in direct sunlight and have done so for a couple of years. It gets mostly afternoon (direct) sunlight. Because I keep it in my yard, it gets wattered at least twice a week with my water sprinklers plus I check on it to make sure that the soil hasn't dried out too much. It was repotted about months ago. I'm currently just using regular potting soil and growing it like a regular tree until it gets a little bigger. So maybe, I should call this a pre-bonsai. Pine trees do well down here in Central Florida and until recently, my pine was doing fine.

For the pictures, I brought it into my lanai.

What is that what it's potted in? Does it have a drainage hole?

Watering twice a week does not seem OK - but it depends. I water mine every day now. Depends on temperature though (I haven't had to water them for months, until spring started here) and it depends on the soil. Your soil will retain more water than my soil does. Watering, by the way, should not be done on a schedule, but when the tree needs it.

Another question: is it secured in the pot? It looks like it's standing loose and can move.

Having a closer look at the bigger pictures:
Does it concern the older needles, are the younger ones still green?

By the way, I would not call this a pre-bonsai. It's a young white pine.

It's potted in top soil purchased at my outdoor and hardware store. The pot has several drainage holes. Here, in central Florida, we'll start getting our afternoon monsoon rains in May so I don't have to water then. In fact, I usually move the tree under my lanai so it won't get as much rain. I'd like for it to grow a little more before I begin to work on it to turn it into a bonsai.

Sounds all good to me - though the pot is big and deep, and the soil will retain more water. Not sure if that can be the cause - or if it's just old needles (which yellow and fallow, which is normal).

Are the buds growing?

Of course I could check that first picture that does show the younger needles :)

Could be seasonal ( ) but I still wonder what these webs are. Did you check if there are more of these?

I didn't see any bugs or spiders of any kind on the tree. The needles are still very supple as well.

It could be that the soil you repotted in is too rich in fertilizer. Those bagged soil manufacturers compete pretty much in how Good the plants grows when using them. That is not really the cariarictics of Good soil, but normal People dont know that and pines are sensitive to overfertilization.
