Geoff, you are right of course, but if the OP says "six months of winter" and we don't know exactly where he is located, it could be Greenland, Siberia, Alaska, Finland, and THEN the native options would be very sparse.
In this case, I guess most trees would benefit from additional lighting even if they go dormant for 3 or 4 months.

Charlie, Charlie.
Please read carefully; tropical trees don't feel well indoors, and they need constant warm weather and high humidity.
Believe me, I live in Brazil.
Besides that, tamarinds can be grown and trained into nice bonsai, but mangos...The leaves are just too big and they don't reduce.
Pick a Pine. Or two.

Posted 5 years 7 months ago #50376That 1800W led what have 600W draw and emits just in the growth spectrum? It gives magenta and blue on visible?
That must be enough, but aesthetically could be bumpy the all red-purple tree.

I own a Ficus, as far as I know they aren't deciduous trees. In my case, where I live, in summer it gets really hot and dry, the usual temperature is 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees celsius). The only room at the house where light enters pretty well is mine, and because of it it's closer to the same temperature outdoors. Putting the tree in my living room it's better but there isn't enough light. Should I buy artificial light? (only for the summer)
