Question about 4 kinds of trees (placement & germination) was created by Esteban

*Preface* - I know kits are "scams", it was a gift :)

- I know trees have to be outside. :P
- Watering everyday, but not too much.
- Haven't put these through a cold month because the "kit" didn't mention putting them into the fridge or planting during the winter.
- The windowsill I have them in is facing North.
- I want to move my Pinus outside but it's below freeze today. It's in the 40's tomorrow so I will move outside tomorrow and the day after.

I'm in NYC USA and I have four different kinds of seeds. Pinus (sprouted), Jacaranda, Piscea, & Delonix.

Pinus: It's below freezing right now, otherwise I would place it outside. However, when the temperature is above freezing, should i keep outside until it drops below again?? Did I mess up the cycle by having it sprout before the Spring? (it only took a week for them to germinate. I was surprised.)

The other three haven't sprouted yet but were planted on 1/29/19. 2 weeks ago today. If i put them in the fridge now, will they healthily stay dormant until spring time when I can put them outside?

Thanks!!!

Welcome, Esteban, and good to aware of the basics.

I would wait a little more, the timing is wrong to have seeds sprouting (as you well know). My experience though is if you wait too long, then put them outside they will drop; if kept too long inside, they will drop. Tough one.

Oh well, Jacaranda and Delonix are tropicals. They will definitely dislike cold weather, not only as seedlings, but always.
This is a difficult situation, they should be in the fridge since the day they arrived.
Answer is "I don't really know." But I think if they sprout at all, they will be struggling until the temps are much higher.

.:woohoo:

Thank you for the heads up! I guess I learned a huge lesson today. Timing is very important.

Well i'm going to stick it through because I have faith these guys will be okay.

Pinus: I'll try to put outside when I can. I know they naturally live in colder temps anyway so i think they'll be okay. I'll just have to keep transferring inside and out depending on the weather. I'll take outside as often as I can.

Jacaranda & Delonix: I'll send some updates in the coming weeks if anything else sprouts yet. I hope they take longer to sprout to I can put them outside when it starts to warm up.

WISH ME LUCK :D

Also, if anyone has any other solutions, i'm still all ears!

Congrats, they look alive!
:-)
I guess the conifers should already be outside, while Jacarandá can wait little longer.

Cool! Only 15 more years to go before you have pre-bonsai.

Sooooo supportive! :silly:
Esteban, I like to grow from seed also (mish?), and I am sure I won't be here by the time they turn into nice bonsai.
That's why I have trees all sizes and ages, so I can have some fun wiring and pruning (and killing) some of them while the seedlings slowly grow.
Auk, is right, it takes a lot of time.
