After seeing leatherback's post, I wanted to start a thread for how to properly upload photos to this forum that might help newbs and oldies alike. We always see the sideways shots, which I believe is a result of mobile uploads. I use a tablet at home, and several of my photos have ended up this way, much to everyone's and my chagrine. A pattern emerged: raw mobile images went sideways, but edited photos stayed upright.
Let's try this. Same image, but one slightly edited. I took a photo of some trees this morning. We had a hard freeze last night, so these newly potted trees are in the basement until it warms up enough to take back outside. Those not needing repot are still in the winter bed.
Raw image.

Note they both look fine from my tablet.

Waah waah...
I don't mean to perpetuate it, but I'm going to experiment here to see if I can duplicate problems. Apologizing in advance for multiple posts. Let's try attaching versus inserting. Same image - collected hawthorn in mica pot.
Note still looks fine to me. Hrmmmm...

Let's try again (last post didn't go through)
Science requires duplication for validation - here we go!
Portrait view: raw and edited.
Trident maple for future air layering. Sacrificial branch to increase taper.
Note I think we've found the problem. Mobile photos taken in portrait need to be edited before posting.
Anyone have orientation issues with photos uploaded using computer instead of mobile?

I agree about editing on a computer before posting. No matter what I do from my tablet, or my phone, photo's always end up side ways. If I open them on my computer and save them as portrait, they insert or attach perfectly.
I'm thinking that a photo edit app for my phone or tablet would solve the problem. I'll post my conclusions if anyone is interested.

@simplysaid The images were all taken, edited, and uploaded from mobile (iPad). Google how to edit with your phone/tablet, try it out & post it here.
That's the point I want with this thread - figure out how to load our photos correctly so we can move on. Go for it!

There are 2 ways a photo can be rotated. By the metadata included in the pictures exif data (This is what phones and tablets typically do, and some photo viewers on computers too). This will result in none-rotated pictures on the forum.
The other is to actually alter the images and rotate the content (The way the pixels are written in the file). This is what you need. And it is normally done by real editing programmes, rather then viewers.

using an external host such as imgur or photobucket also works fine.. and they provide the code and the pictures are always cropped to the forum's layout..
