In any case.. Sale time.. So I bought this at 70% off. A cedrus Deodora. I think it has bonsai potential.

Yes, that was what I thought with your previous post regarding the 6 euro ficus project too. In a regular basis day I only see comments with certain assiduity from a very few of us and I believe that if this forum wants to keep its strength, many more of us should be posting reviews, doubts, questions, advises, pictures, etc...

Now, as for your work... I think that is a magnificent jin you produced... My first thought was that it looked amazingly real, almost as when I was a kid and I tore branches away from trees (every once in while and not as a common habit ) and the bark was stripped right out of the branch... It looked pretty much like that.

So ermm... nice job. The jin is too big, could use some work.

The pot's colour suits the tree in my opinion. You have a good trunk and jin . Good job! with time and pinching it would look even awesom-er-er (that should be a word )

You?ll see, when you receive constructive critics, advises or different opinions or points of view, they all come from different experiences experienced from different people, living in different places (sorry for the cacophony :silly: ) that inevitably leads you, step by step, through the path of learning and knowledge. That doesn?t mean, by any means, that the only way should be this, but it is a good complement to hands on experience, books, magazines, websites and bonsai clubs. Sharing our experiences should be "mandatory"

Good plan. I will try and make some good pictures of the apple and gingko I got as a gift from someone's mother who was getting too old for this hobby and was looking for a good home for her trees.

They need work, but I don't know yet where to go with them. That's not really a problem of course, I'm not planning on doing anything with them until spring next year so I have time to think - and advise will be welcome.

I dont know much about ginkos, but i heard and read that they are prized for their pyramidal shape as bonsai, so an option may to do just that? I dunno, but i have to say, i have been looking for ginko material at garden centres for 3 months and i have never found any

Odd. You cannot enter a garden centre around here without tripping over them! Not always the best plants, but one of them recentely had decently small plants (Ginko does not really seal cuts) at reasonable prices. As everything is on sale now (Clearing for Christmas displays) now is a good time to look around garden centres.
