名媛直播 Pot Signature / Chop was created by Rudy

Posted 10 years 3 months ago #12821
Hello,

I am researching an old pot with the signature / chop "PRIMROSE MADE IN JAPAN". The signature / chop is in a circle and has what looks like flower petals in the center with the name (above) surrounding it. The pot is a large oval shape, has two drainage holes and is blueish- gray with a nice old patina. I have checked several sites dedicated to makers marks, chops/ signagutes, but with no luck. Any information or suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry to not answer you directly yet, but would it be possible to get a picture of the signature, then it would be easier. If you cant get a picture which i think is the case, the i dont know, but i can say that it is nothing special if it has been writen in english (it may be that primrose is a company and that it made its not so special pots in japan?). I would love to be wrong though as if the pot is special, then that would be awesome.

Thank you for getting back to me. I will send you photos of the chop and pot tomorrow. Yes, it is in English and I also doubt it is an expensive or important pot. It has a nice look and might be the home for a future bonsai. Pictures coming soon. Thanks again.

You are rigght, it is not anything special but still looks nice. Cant find that company anywhere though.

You could give it a good scrub to get rid of acccumelating dirt or fungus.

Apart from that, i am clueless

Good to know you also know how to value pots, Bob. I have been considering buying this one for one of my junipers.
It's 145,00 euro though, do you think that's too expensive ?

I dont know the full quality of it. 145.00 euros, wel i know it would look good with the juniper, with the earthy colours. One main thing would be if it has special holes for anchorage. As it is 104 in pounds. Do you know the size? These are just general inferences really along with some knowledge of pottery. Another key factor would be leveling, because with many of the fifteen to 20 pound pots, they are rather shorter on of the legs so they wobble. The other main factor is the size which i do not know. If it is hand made and about 30cm or 20cm then you i would say, have somewhat a reasonable prize. But i need to know the size and whether it may be specially hand made .

Actually, this is an antique Tokoname pot with a value of 650 USD.

I thought we agreed something, Bob.

It is a beautiful pot and well worth the 145 euros. Please let me know if you decide you do not buy it. I have a redwood it would look great in.
